It's VS. Its

"Sometimes we put up walls, not to block people out, but to see who can break them down."

I can't take credit, but I like this. I feel it is relevant.

On another note, can someone help me with a little problem? I could look online easily, and through old texts, but I am also hoping that this will maybe help out some others who are not sure of this grammar rule. It's vs Its.

The following is a song. I'll sing it for you one time if you really want when I see you (I also can't take credit for it):
"Ohhhhhh if you wanna be posessive, it's just I-T-S
But if you wanna make a contraction, it's I-T-apostrophe-S!"

Hopefully that makes sense. in a nutshell:
"Its" = something belonging to "It"
"It's" = It + is
