Re-examine Your Sense of Time

I read an essay called "Life in the Stopwatch Lane" a few days ago. (This is what I do now. I read essays. *Sigh.) The essay basically states that there are a number of different types of time: spare time, quiet time, alone time, work time, the list goes on, but I can't remember any more. The author describes the 'need' of people to obsess completely over time. For example (from the essay), we have invented coffee machines that turn on at a certain time so that you can sleep in the extra two minutes it takes to make a pot of coffee. When you wake up, it is brewed and ready to drink. I read that, and I laughed out loud(I lawled!) (on the bus. People stared...). I thought about it. It is two fucking minutes. Is 2 minutes of sleep really that important to us? Is it that important to me?

These past few days, I have forced myself to not been affected by time. I watch the clock, sure, but I do what needs to be done without hesitation or moments of dwelling. These past few days have been the best days of my "alone time"-life. (This does not include time I have spent with family, friends, or my girlfriend... Those 'times' are irreplaceable and thus are not included in the previous statement).

If "time is money" and money controls humanity, or at least most civil (or uncivil, some would argue as a result of the Time+Money equation) nations, well, all I can really advise you to do is throw away your fucking wristwatch (metaphorically) because those two minutes are not really that essential. Re-examine your own sense of time(s).

There are some tribes in South America that don't have a word in their language for "time." I think that's so beautiful. If only time didn't = money. We have adapted the meaning of life so much from it's roots that i don't think we know what the meaning is anymore.

I like how you're using philisophical logic to deduct rational reasoning. See, I can learn things from school as well.

Its very difficult to allow your life to not be dictated by numbers. Look at your day right now. You have to wake up by a certain TIME so that you have enough TIME to shower and eat to get to class on TIME so that you can come home and get your homework done in a TIME efficient fashion so that when its dinner TIME and then bed TIME you won't feel overwhelmed about the TIME you've wasted that day and you don't have to stay up far too late so that you can be efficient enough to keep to your schedule the next day.
As a society we've placed such emphasis on punctuality, which is reasonable because no one likes to wait, but I forsee a future where most people can do their jobs from home on their own watch (besides cops and firefighters, but no one regards them anyway).
Also, sleeping two extra minutes is a mental trip, nothing else. Your body doesn't benefit enough to measure a difference, but you feel better knowing you've done all you can to ensure the healthiest, longest sleep possible.

I hate how most clocks are different, and its very easy to get screwed over by one having a watch thats late and someone else having a watch thats early when they are supposed to meet.
